The OUP blog does a podcast series called the Oxford Comment that might be of interest to our readers. The latest one is about religion and features Christopher Hitchens, Tariq Ramadan, Nick Mafi, and David Sehat (yours truly). Hitchens and Ramadan talk about their debate at the 92nd Street Y from a few months back about whether or not Islam is a religion of peace. Mafi, whose great uncle was prime minister of Iran in the 1920s, talks about his changing views as a non-practicing Muslim-American after the September 11 attacks. And I situate the contemporary American debate about religion in public life within its wider historical and legal context by drawing upon my forthcoming book, The Myth of American Religious Freedom, which will be published next month.
